People Rebuilding Berkeley
1974 - Berkeley, USA
A Proposed component for the revision of the Berkeley Master Plan, concerning neighborhood control. 1974. This was a project undertaken by the Center for Environmental Structure, and the students of Arch 280, winter and spring quarters, 1974. The purpose of the project was to develop and test an alternative to the present Master planning process which would be based on local neighborhood control. We developed a workable model of planning which would give the people of the neighborhoods a tool for designing and implementing building and repair projects collectively in the public land of their neighborhoods. The project included an incremental process of building and reppir, the idea of local neighborhood builders, and a small workshop or builders yard in each neighborhood.
