Urban Development of Addiriyah 1998 - Addiriyah, Saudi Arabia
Addiriyyah Urban Development project is aimed to be part of a long term development plan the Saudi Arabia is putting to work on the area. This area is known for being the origin of Al Saud, where the Saudi Arabia kingdom started. The long term plan focuses on bringing back the original residents of Addiriyyah with their social and urban characteristics. The proposed project program therefore is aimed to transform Addiriyyah into a touristic attraction hub that tells the story of the establishment of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the hands of Al Saud. The urban design masterplan and program was developed for eight main areas in the historical precinct of Addiriyyah; the design concept was translated into physical and spatial principles, relying on the relationships and interactions between the traditional and modern urbanisms of Addiriyyah. Some of these principles were based on aspects of integrity, continuity and conscious restructuring of the cultural and social aspects of the area’s historical community, and the value it holds within the history of Saudi Arabia. The urban design concept for the development of Addiriyyah suggests a perception for developing its urban character, functions, services, features, as well as the possible mechanisms of implementation with appropriate costs. This perception is based on restoring the major social, cultural, economic, urban and architectural values of Addiriyyah. Also, it gives visions for the infrastructure and road networks, open spaces and services that constitute the fundamental urban agglomeration for the project.
